Five things that make an offline RPG good on a phone

Mobile RPGs live or die on how they handle short sessions. The best ones let you save and quit anywhere, so a sudden subway stop doesn't cost you progress. Emberbound Saga does this well; most frustrating ones don't.

Turn-based combat almost always beats real-time on a touchscreen. Fighting the on-screen buttons is nobody's idea of fun, and turns give you room to think even when the ride is bumpy.

Readable math matters more than flashy graphics. If I can understand why my attack did 40 damage, I can plan. If numbers feel random, I check out fast.

Finally, respect my storage and my battery. A good offline RPG should feel like it's working with my commute, not against it. These are the things I weigh before scoring anything.
